Day #4

March 21st 2011 in Uncategorized

Maddie Mae is having a great day #4 post-op.

She is wanting to walk further even than I feel comfortable letting her right now. She still needs to take it a little easy.

The swelling underneath is about the same, and her incision is still looking great. I made a quick run to the store and came back to find that she had jumped up on the couch by herself. She is very steady on her feet and has had no problem doing her business. She’s actually been feeling quite playful this morning.

She is slightly disturbed that she can’t yet lay on her favorite side, which is the amputation side. Or lay on her belly, but I know all of this will come in time.

Still have not had to put the cone of shame on her yet, but that will probably change tomorrow when I go back to work and must leave her for the day.

I think it might be safer to put it on since I can’t monitor her to make sure she is leaving it alone.

So all is well and Maddie has decided to take a nap in the kitchen floor. I may join her, but from the couch 🙂

Lookin’ good there Maddie! if you have any trouble navigating that slick floor, tell mom to check out the recommended traction solutions for dogs in the Tripawds Gear Blog.

Way to go Maddie Mae! I guess all the virtual tripawd practice is really benefiting you now.
Good luck on your first day alone tomorrow.

And since you are already jumping up on the couch you might want to read up on one of the unofficial tripawd celebrations- Couch Day: http://gerry.tripawds.com/2011/01/19/the-history-of-couch-day/

yes, I think the practice has definitely given her an advantage to learning how to live as a tripawd. 🙂

I’ll check out the couch day celebration! thanks 🙂

In due time she will be doing everything she did before. Life on three legs is the least stressful thing of the whole journey… Bless you guys.

Thanks for the encouragement. She has been a very strong girl through all of this. SHe doesn’t seem that phased by it. Besides the fact that she would like to lay on her left side, but can’t quite pull that off yet. She is however occasionally sitting on the flat of her butt again! That’s an improvement for her.

She is so precious and you are so wonderful to take care of her giving her a chance at a good life. She looks like my “Skeeter’ who passed away last November.
