First day alone…..

March 22nd 2011 in Uncategorized

So today is my first day back to work after Maddie’s surgery. I am somewhat apprehensive, but I know she’ll be fine.

This will be the longest stretch without pain meds, so I hope that is not an issue for her. She seems pretty good and like she is healing well.

This morning she was actually able to lie on her belly (sort of) which is a huge accomplishment! She is rather disgusted with always having to stand or lay on her right side only!

She wants to sit like normal (which for her is flat on her butt – the Heeler slouch), and to lay on her favorite side, the left. So last night she managed sitting on her butt. Of course she was on a VERY cushy pillow, but Β she did it!

And this morning, semi belly posture. So she’s getting closer πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to try out her stockinette tonight and see if that will help with her swelling. Other than that, she has been on a quick road to recovery.

Thanks for all of the encouragement from everyone and the well wishes πŸ™‚

Yay Maddie!! She is such a trooper, she will remain in my prayers. We just lost our heeler, he was hit by a car and we have a void in our life. I am so happy for Miss Maddie and I look forward to seeing pics of her recovery.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss πŸ™ Being hit by a car is the way Maddie ended up here.
You know Shelly, when you decide it’s time to get another, Texas Cattle Dog rescue can hook you up with the new furrbaby Love of your life!
There are sooooo many in shelters looking for a home and a little love…..

I have rescued and nursed two Australian Cattle dogs since falling in love with them. The one that was the most beat up is now 15 and we have spent the past 13 1/2 years developing an especially close bond. It’s the ones that needed you the most that love you back the most! With all you loving care, Maddie will flourish! My best to you and Maddie both. Robbin aka “cattle dog mom” on the Big Island of Hawaii

If you want to feed Maddie something special and that will also be easy to digest, here is what I feed my 15 year old Bubby who tends to constipate due to his anti-inflammatory medication from hip pain:

Brown rice – cooked
Ground beef – cooked / or Chicken
Sweet peas
or Brocolli
Drizzle with olive oil and water to soften
I also drizzle fish oil from capsule

You can cook the rice and meat ahead of time and store in refrigerator for several days. I use frozen sweet peas from Costco and thaw under running water.

Bubby loves this meal! For treats I give him chicken jerkey, also from Costco.

Oh — don’t store the rice WITH the meat! I store in separate containers.

Maddie should be fine, what she needs most now is rest anyway.
