Maddie Mae’s trip Home – Day 1

March 18th 2011 in Uncategorized

Here’s my little angel sleeping on her way home from the Vet.

And here she is when we got home and settled her down on her bed.

Now she’s up after a short nap.

She’s doing a lot of standing around like she doesn’t know what to do.

I wish she would just lay down somewhere, she’s making me crazy because I feel the need to watch her stand around looking lost!

This is still better than I had thought it would be, so I am really not complaining 🙂

Finally, on the couch next to me she settled down, cleaned her IV spot and took  a nice nap with  lots of snoring.

So far, so good 🙂

welcome home Maddie Mae!

Way to go Maddie Mae! Healing from this kind of surgery is hard work, so lay down and relax!!

Mom, stay as calm as you can, maybe it will help her feel calmer. Sometimes the pain meds make them feel all loopy, so she may just be kind of confused or something.

You’re looking good Maddie. 🙂

R&R! Looks like she’s getting plenty of it. And lots of love. Hugs to Maddie and to you. I know this can’t be easy for either of you! 🙂

Wow, she looks great! Her incision is so clean. All the standing is probably from the medication. Is she on Tramadol? My Nova just stood there just like that, looking around all stoned-like. Maddie Mae will be back to her old self once she is weaned off the pain meds.

That “looking lost” behavior is a common side effect of the pain meds – Maddie’s just wondering where all those pink elephants came from. What is she on?

Bud was up and pacing all night his first night but by the second, he was better. She looks fabulous! Glad she is home with you!

She is on Tramadol. She had just finished up Prednisone that she had been on for the HW treatment, so they didn’t want to give her Rimadyl.

I figured it was probably the pain meds making her act that way.

Welcome home precious Maddie Mae!

Welcome home Maddie!
Maggie did a lot of wandering and staring while she was on tramadol. At this point in recovery a necessary evil I think.

Maddie looks great! Her incision is perfect, just the way you want it. If she starts to bug it, you can put boxers on her.

She’s going to sleep a lot, so hopefully the Tramadol effects will be minimal. Don’t let her go bounding around like I imagine she’ll want to (she just has that look about her). And like Karen said, the Tramadol is a necessary evil. I’d rather my dog be a stoner than in pain. Me, too, for that matter!
