2nd day post-op

March 19th 2011 in Uncategorized

Maddie is doing pretty good today. Her appetite has been normal the whole time.
She LOVES to eat and this hasn’t slowed it down.
She isn’t doing as much sleeping as I expected she would. She lays very quite and still but awake more than sleeping.
She has not had a movement since Thursday morning. Unusual for her, but I’m sure the meds have something to do with that.

Under her incision on what is almost her belly she is a little puffy and red. She was reddish yesterday, perhaps razor burn. The puffy may be fluid build up? It is the lowest area around her surgery site, so maybe that’s normal?

SHe has not had to wear the cone of shame yet. She has left the incision alone so far.
She’s enjoying a nap in front of the window and occasionally gets to watch the squirrels playing in the tree outside.

She’s been VERY kissy faced and loving, even more so than normal. So we are spending lots of quality time together.

Sounds like she is doing pretty well- an apatite is excellent.
The fluid you are describing sounds like a seroma- pretty normal after amputation surgery. You can read about it on this post about post-amp side effects : https://tripawds.com/2011/03/08/post-amputation-side-effects-in-dogs/.

The first BM could take several days- I think it took Maggie 5 or 6 days. The pain meds can cause constipation.

Hope she keeps doing well.

Shortly after I posted this, she had her BM! It was even fairy normal. She also bounded out the front door to try and chase a squirrel up the tree. All good signs. 🙂
